RACHEL COOKE
The Self Esteem Specialist
Niche – Mindfulness
Expertise
I have had particular experience and success working with clients on relationship, anxiety, vulnerability and self esteem issues.
Overview
I work a little bit differently to other therapists and coaches I’ve met, it may be why my clients consistently see the outcomes they want.
For me, the relationship between you and I is the most important part of what we do. Once we can base this on honesty, openness, a sense of creativity and curiosity, you can be pretty certain that you will start seeing positive changes quickly.
I look at the world differently to most; I’ve always questioned the nature of happiness, fulfilment and suffering. This led me to pursue learning how to help people improve the quality of their lives in the most effective way possible. Through my training and experience I began to understand that people have some similarities; we all want to feel valued, loved, appreciated and necessary. This ties in with a unanimous desire to feel belonging.
I’ve spent almost many years developing the skills I believe are vital to be an exceptional therapist. Having a range of experience and skills is really important to me, which is why I’ve worked with such diverse people and organisations across every format: face to face, telephone, text, Skype, email and instant messaging.
Approach
I’ve trained in multiple different types of therapy and coaching so that I can tailor therapy to meet your needs in the best way possible. However, in my experience, and as multiple studies have shown, successful outcomes are not based on your therapist’s training or experience – it’s based on the relationship between you and your therapist. I’m not here to give you the answers, I’m here to help you figure out what’s right for you.
I make sure to cover the concrete areas of life first – eating, sleeping, exercise, work, living situation. We sort through what’s working and what’s not working along the way. Next we look at your relationships – with yourself and with other people.Along with a Master’s Degree in Integrative Psychotherapy I’m also trained in NLP (neuro-linguistic programming) which offers some very useful techniques and language patterns, as well as mindfulness and EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) which I’ve used with many, many clients and is a particularly gentle, effective technique for painful or traumatic memories.
I use a lot of mindfulness in my work – in short mindfulness is attentive awareness of the present moment. It can be challenging to learn and practice in the beginning, but every single person I have introduced to mindfulness has said that they benefit from using it in their daily lives.
I have experience in and work with a range of issues, some of which include: abuse, addictions, anger, anorexia, anxiety, bereavement/grief/loss, body image, bulimia, career, childhood issues, creativity, depression, disability, dissociation, eating disorders, family, gender, identity, life transitions, mental health, motivation, OCD, orthorexia, phobias, pain management, procrastination, PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), parenting, relationships, self-esteem, self-harm, sexual orientation, sexual issues, social confidence, sleep, spirituality, stress and trauma as well as the many other things that life can throw at us.
