The ADD/ADHD Specialist
Niche – Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)
I have a particular interest in ADD/ADHD, the neurobiology of trauma, Post Traumatic Stress and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Emotional Freedom Technique, mindfulness practice and the relationship between mind and body in wellbeing. An important part of my work is psychoeducation – explaining the therapeutic process to clients and why they may be experiencing what they are experiencing. In my experience people are less anxious when they have a better understanding of what they are experiencing.
My integrative training and holistic approach allow me to work with each client as a unique individual, and to help them find solutions that are appropriate to them. I am Director of the Emotional Freedom Techniques Training Academy, an accredited psychotherapy supervisor, and I was Director of a psychotherapy and hypnotherapy training organisation for twelve years.
I have always been interested in people and what motivates them, their thoughts, beliefs and behaviours. A significant proportion of my twenty three years in the corporate world involved working with interpersonal issues with staff; eventually I decided to pursue that aspect full time.
I am an Integrative therapist with fourteen years’ experience in private practice and the voluntary sector. My training covers counselling and psychotherapy from different perspectives including hypnotherapy, Neuro-Linguistic Programming, Emotional Freedom Techniques, bereavement counselling, mindfulness practice and cognitive and behavioural techniques.
I have worked as a counsellor for the UK’s largest addictions charity and a leading mental health charity. I am currently the consultant psychotherapist to an organisation working with people diagnosed with ADD/ADHD and their families. I am experienced in working with a broad range of emotional and psychological concerns and habitual behaviours, trauma and PTSD.
I provide practical skills training to clients, such as Emotional Freedom Techniques, mindfulness practice, self hypnosis and cognitive and behavioural techniques. Underpinning my work is a person or client-centred approach, a recognition that therapy is a collaboration, a journey of discovery for both participants. One of the world’s most respected therapists once said that each time he saw a new patient, he would invent an entirely new therapy. This acknowledges the uniqueness of each individual’s experiences and their way of being in the world, and that therapy needs to be tailored to the specific needs of each person.

Jonathan Livingstone MA established his therapy & coaching practice in London in 1998. Determined to provide the most effective service possible, he studied and trained in a number of what are considered the most effective contemporary therapy and coaching models, including EMDR, kinesiology, hypnotherapy, NLP, TAT& EFT.
He has created a unique way of working, inspired by these powerful therapeutic models, which involves finding and resolving the origins of therapeutic problems so that they are permanently healed.
He is author of the booksThe Therapist Within You (Lemniscate, 2009) and Relearning Experience (in preparation), and a former director and elected board member of the UK Kinesiology Federation.
His clients include corporations and individuals from all backgrounds, races & sexual orientation – international athletes, titled persons, coaches & therapists, actors, college principals, medical doctors, chief executives, dancers, models, an ambassador. They consistently report achieving their desired outcomes, and often much more, after only a few consultations.
Very often, people don’t know exactly what the problem is, or what it is they want instead; and delineating the therapeutic problem and establishing the goal constitute the first task of the therapeutic process.
The therapeutic problem involves an uncomfortable feeling, even if you are not aware of the feeling (since it is feelings, not thoughts, that make you do things you don’t want to do or stop you from doing what you want to do – if it were simply thoughts, you could change them). The therapeutic problem also involves a disempowering belief – although this belief is usually unconscious.
The uncomfortable feeling and disempowering belief are inappropriate in the present circumstances and originate in the past. The second task – the special work of this therapy – involves identifying the experiences in the past that have created the disempowering belief and uncomfortable feeling – even if you have no idea where they may originate.
The third task is to resolve the past experiences that are the origins of the therapeutic problem. You will do this by revisiting and challenging the past experiences in such a way that you replace the original belief with a learning that is empowering.
Through this process the uncomfortable feeling and associated limiting belief dissolve; the therapeutic problem is healed; and your goal becomes attainable.

The Self Esteem Specialist
Niche – Mindfulness
I have had particular experience and success working with clients on relationship, anxiety, vulnerability and self esteem issues.
I work a little bit differently to other therapists and coaches I’ve met, it may be why my clients consistently see the outcomes they want.
For me, the relationship between you and I is the most important part of what we do. Once we can base this on honesty, openness, a sense of creativity and curiosity, you can be pretty certain that you will start seeing positive changes quickly.
I look at the world differently to most; I’ve always questioned the nature of happiness, fulfilment and suffering. This led me to pursue learning how to help people improve the quality of their lives in the most effective way possible. Through my training and experience I began to understand that people have some similarities; we all want to feel valued, loved, appreciated and necessary. This ties in with a unanimous desire to feel belonging.
I’ve spent almost many years developing the skills I believe are vital to be an exceptional therapist. Having a range of experience and skills is really important to me, which is why I’ve worked with such diverse people and organisations across every format: face to face, telephone, text, Skype, email and instant messaging.
I’ve trained in multiple different types of therapy and coaching so that I can tailor therapy to meet your needs in the best way possible. However, in my experience, and as multiple studies have shown, successful outcomes are not based on your therapist’s training or experience – it’s based on the relationship between you and your therapist. I’m not here to give you the answers, I’m here to help you figure out what’s right for you.I make sure to cover the concrete areas of life first – eating, sleeping, exercise, work, living situation. We sort through what’s working and what’s not working along the way. Next we look at your relationships – with yourself and with other people.
Along with a Master’s Degree in Integrative Psychotherapy I’m also trained in NLP (neuro-linguistic programming) which offers some very useful techniques and language patterns, as well as mindfulness and EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) which I’ve used with many, many clients and is a particularly gentle, effective technique for painful or traumatic memories.
I use a lot of mindfulness in my work – in short mindfulness is attentive awareness of the present moment. It can be challenging to learn and practice in the beginning, but every single person I have introduced to mindfulness has said that they benefit from using it in their daily lives.
I have experience in and work with a range of issues, some of which include: abuse, addictions, anger, anorexia, anxiety, bereavement/grief/loss, body image, bulimia, career, childhood issues, creativity, depression, disability, dissociation, eating disorders, family, gender, identity, life transitions, mental health, motivation, OCD, orthorexia, phobias, pain management, procrastination, PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), parenting, relationships, self-esteem, self-harm, sexual orientation, sexual issues, social confidence, sleep, spirituality, stress and trauma as well as the many other things that life can throw at us.
